I didn't really know what to expect at the
Model Casting for FashFest 2014, other than it was being held in a Hotel and
that a record-breaking 140+ hopefuls had signed up to strut their stuff for a
chance to walk in the clothes of Canberra's designers at this year's FashFest
event.
I met Wendy Johnson of Clarity
Communications in the foyer of East Hotel just before 1:00 PM and after some
brief discussion with the floor team running the show, I was ushered into the
room where the Casting would be held and introduced to some of the creative
forces behind FashFest, some of the designers who will be showing their
collections later this year, and also to fellow Canberran Fashion Bloggers, H2T Fashion, Closet Voyage and Heat Storm.
And, of course, there were the models. The
media release indicated that models of all shapes, sizes, ages and experience
levels were more than welcome to apply, and so I initially believed that it
might be a bit of a variety hour line up. However I can honestly say that
everyone who I saw today truly seemed to have model potential. 140+ potential
models showed up today, some of who had traveled from Sydney, to try their
luck and skill against their peers.
The atmosphere was fantastic. A DJ kept the
crowd thrumming while preparations were made, and everywhere you looked you could
spy excited people chatting in groups or dancing along with the music. The
FashFest crew cut a neat profile in their coordinated all-black ensembles, and
kept the afternoon moving effortlessly with a considered and assessing glance.
The judging panel,
FashFest's co-founder Andrea Hutchinson, and Canberra’s Belinda Riding, certainly
have their work cut out for them. Selecting and training the models before FashFest 2014 kicks off on 30 April will be a lot of work, and I don't much envy them.
I am so thrilled to
have had the opportunity to attend the Model Casting today, and I'm looking
forward to sharing more FashFest content with you as we draw nearer to the four
night event being held at the Canberra Airport.
Xx
